Yes, summer 2009 officially still has a few weeks left, but with “Inglourious Basterds,” the summer movie season has essentially drawn to a close. So, it’s time for us to give out the Summer Yappies Awards!

These are our first-ever awards we’re handing out here on this site’s inaugural year. Joe and Chris were able to agree on several of the categories, but for most of them we each are handing out our own Yappies.

And don’t forget to head over to our podcast to listen to us talk about how we made our choices!

So, without further ado, here are the winners:

Best kid’s film — “Up”

Best romantic film — “(500) Days of Summer”

Best comedy — “The Hangover”

Sexiest babe — Megan Fox, “Transformers: Rise of the Fallen”

Most disappointing film — “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”

Coolest hero — Optimus Prime, “Transformers: Rise of the Fallen”

Chris — “I like baseball, movies, good clothes, whiskey, fast cars and you. What else do you need to know?” — John Dillinger, “Public Enemies”

Joe — “Don’t pander to me, kid. One tiny crack in the hull and our blood boils in thirteen seconds. Solar flare might crop up, cook us in our seats. And wait till you’re sitting pretty with a case of Andorian shingles. See if you’re so relaxed when your eyeballs are bleeding. Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence.” — Dr. Leonard McCoy, “Star Trek”
