Free Fire

An arms deal goes wrong, bullets fly…and that’s about it. Despite a stellar cast, “Free Fire” doesn’t have much to offer that you haven’t already seen before.

The Hollars

Though it may offer zero surprises in its familiar wayward-child-returns-home story, "The Hollars" features a terrific cast that's always interesting and alive.

A great big warm, wet hug of a movie, this dramedy about a wayward kid going home is weighted with cliches but rings true and avoids tripping over pretensions.

Hardcore Henry

As bad-taste action-adventure goes, “Hardcore Henry” is watchable, even if just for its creative first-person perspective. But one thing it is not is hardcore.

Sharlto Copley provides the motion-capture performance and voice of the robotic title character in "Chappie," a 2015 Columbia Pictures release directed by Neill Blomkamp.

"Chappie" is neither the easy kind of bad nor the sort from which co-writer / director Neill Blomkamp can't bounce back ... but damn, does it hurt to watch.

Maleficent

A visually spectacular take on the "Sleeping Beauty" myth; I only wish the story matched the eye candy.
